Fuse Theatre invited Sara Chezari, the General Manager of Surface Area, to experience the journey of their Arts Council Award-winning show "Follow the Signs"

The show features an all-star, bi-lingual cast, including Chris Fonseca, Harry Jardine, Raffied Julien, and Fleur, to tell a fresh and vibrant story through BSL, rap, spoken English, dance, music and creative captioning. During rehearsals in August 2024, Sara spent three days with Fuse as an appreciative friend, exploring what makes Fuse Theatre unique. The show is not just a performance but a journey into the lived experiences of Chris and Raffie. They play different parts in their lives, revisiting painful memories, traumas, and times of coming together and overcoming. The director, Harry, also shares his experience meeting Chris and Raffie, learning British Sign Language, and becoming an ally.

The crew works tirelessly to intricately weave their personalities and backstories into every show, allowing the audience to connect with the performance. This commitment to authenticity makes the theatrical experience genuinely engaging and unforgettable. Throughout the rehearsals, the cast and crew devoted special attention to the challenging scenes, prioritising empathy and consideration for everyone’s well-being. This approach fostered a safe and nurturing environment, allowing the cast members to explore and embody their roles fully. The show has begun touring, with dates coming in Bristol, Leeds, Manchester, and London’s Soho Theatre. The crew is set to engage new audiences and reimagine the parameters of how and whose stories are told.
